When Stalking Turns Deadly (Lana
Turner)
Never Date Your Stalker
January 5. 2019
Lana Turner
I’ve done a number of articles on stalkers for this
website, as I am the victim of stalking. Today, I was reading about
the late actress Lana Turner. My mother is a fan of the movies
“Peyton Place” and “Imitation of Life” which I watched because of
her fondness for the films. Turner starred in the classic films.
Turner was quite famous in her time. However,
tragedy struck when a man stalked and began pursuing her
romantically, in what would greatly damage her life and career.
First of all, there’s nothing romantic about stalking. It’s not
flattering. It’s sick. It’s a serious mental disorder.
Turner was stalked by a member of the mafia, Johnny
Stompanato. What should have been a great time in her life, due to
her film successes, was turned into a nightmare because of his
behavior. The man literally ruined her life with his evil and
insanity. She was America’s sweetheart. She should not have been
dating a member of the mafia. However, she didn’t realize who he was
at first, as he lied about his identity.
Stompanato illegally sought out and obtained
Turner’s private, unlisted telephone number and address. He began
aggressively pursuing her. Stompanato sent her unsolicited gifts and
showed up at her home. Unwisely, Turner began dating him. However,
very quickly it became apparent that she had made a mistake, but one
that was difficult to extricate herself from, as her life was now in
danger.

Stompanato behaved in a violent, jealous and
possessive manner. He regularly beat Turner in uncontrolled rages.
There is a notorious incident regarding Stompanato stalking Turner
to Britain where she was filming the movie “Another Time, Another
Place” in London, England, with future James Bond star, Sean
Connery. Stompanato became jealous, assuming Turner had fallen in
love with the Scottish heartthrob, Connery.
Stompanato violently choked Turner at the property
she stayed in while filming in London. After that incident,
Stompanato stormed the “Another Time, Another Place”
movie set. Stompanato pointed a gun at Turner, Connery and other
members of the movie set, which is crazy and unheard of in the
entertainment industry. Those tactics do not belong in
entertainment.
Connery, who has a black belt in karate, wrestled
the gun away from Stompanato by twisting his arm and subduing him.
Stompanato fled the set after being subdued by Connery. Turner
contacted Scotland Yard, who accompanied her back to the rented
property in London, to ensure Stompanato would not attack her again.
Scotland Yard also had Stompanato deported from Britain. Scotland
Yard escorted Stompanato to the airport and placed him on an
airplane back to America, as he had engaged in criminal conduct on
their shores, via choking Turner, then pulling a gun on her and
castmates.
When Turner returned to America, Stompanato began
stalking her again. He became enraged when she attended the Academy
Awards in Los Angeles without him as her date, where she had been
nominated for an Oscar for her work in the now legendary film
“Peyton Place.”
Lana Turner's home in Beverly Hills
Stompanato stalked Turner back to the Beverly Hills
mansion she had just begun leasing the week prior and began loudly
screaming at her, disturbing the peace. This is another component of
obsessive stalkers behavior. They engage in wild outbursts, yelling
and screaming at their victims in an unprovoked rage. The yelling
and screaming is considered socially inappropriate and very bad
manners. However, obsessive stalkers see nothing wrong with engaging
in unprovoked and out of place yelling and screaming at victims as
they are completely crazy predators, who should be in prison, not
roaming the streets.
The argument turned into violence and death threats
from Stompanato. Turner was one of the most beautiful women of her
time. She was discovered because of her looks. During Stompanato’s
rage filled outburst at Turner’s home, he began threatening to burn
off Turner’s beautiful face with acid to ruin her movie career. He
then threatened to kill her. He also threatened to murder her
mother, who lived in the house. Stompanato further threatened to
murder Turner’s only child, 14-year-old Cheryl Crane.
Cheryl, who also lived in the property, heard the
argument and physical fighting coming from her mother’s room, and
became distressed. Cheryl ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife from
the drawer and went back up stairs to help her mother. Cheryl
stabbed Stompanato in the stomach. He fell to the floor and began
going unconscious.
Turner immediately called a doctor, who tried to
revive Stompanato, but was unsuccessful. The doctor then called
paramedics, who tried to treat him at the scene. However, paramedics
were unable to save him, as the one stab wound penetrated his liver
and aorta, which supplies vast quantities of blood to the body. He
was pronounced dead on the scene.

Stompanato stalked Turner, a woman out of his
league, in a very invasive way, then resorted to very violent
tactics to keep her against her wishes, when she quickly tried to
break away from him, upon realizing the monster she had allowed into
her life.
Turner’s daughter Cheryl was arrested over
Stompanato’s death. The trial caused a massive scandal at the time.
However, Cheryl was found not guilty, with the jury deciding it was
justifiable homicide. Given the fact people had witness Stompanato’s
acts of stalking and criminal violence against Turner, such as on
the aforementioned movie set where Sean Connery had to save her and
others from his madness, he was correctly deemed a threat to their
life and safety.
People need to be careful regarding who they date.
Stompanato’s conduct should have set off alarm bells from day one
with Turner. The first clue was him illegally obtaining her
unpublished telephone number and address. That was a bad sign. He
also gave her a fake last name, to hide the fact he is in the mafia.
Very early in the relationship, he began exhibiting
signs of being very possessive, which is another warning sign. He
also displayed a horrible temper that resulted in acts of violence
against Turner. Stompanato further showed his evil streak by taking
nude photos of Turner while she was asleep and using them to
blackmail her into staying with him, a man she was trying to get
away from in every way.
Lana Turner cried throughout her daughter's
criminal trial
His behavior kept escalating to the point he choked
her, then pulled a gun on Turner and her coworkers. His behavior is
a textbook example of an obsessive stalker. It’s amazing how correct
psychiatrists are in laying out the awful behaviors associated with
the serious and dangerous mental disorder of obsessive stalking (and
stalking in general).
Obsessive stalking is not to be taken lightly. Most
obsessive stalkers murder their victims if they are not stopped by
law enforcement or another person (as seen with Turner’s daughter).
Stompanato should have been imprisoned from day one, when he
illegally obtained her private information and began contacting her.
If someone obtains your private information and
contacts you, do not date them. That is not appropriate and lawful
behavior. It is a criminal invasion of privacy. That person is a
stalker. Avoid them like the plague. The mere fact their mind
crossed that social boundary as to illegally obtain your private
information and contact you is a bad sign.
Women and men need to be careful of dating very
possessive people. They often have anger management problems that
can turn violent, harming you and others. Lastly, it is wise not to
date someone involved in criminal activity. If they are not
following the law in other matters, they will not respect your
rights either.
