Repealed 2016 Law Would Have Kept Guns Out Of The Hands Of Florida School Shooter Nikolas Cruz Who Went On To Kill 17 People February 21. 2018
Nikolas Cruz in court on mass murder charges This is a follow up to the January 6, 2016
article " 5-weeks later on January 5, 2016, then President Barack Obama, announced that new gun control measures includes a feature that enables doctors to report to the FBI's background check division, the names of mentally ill patients, in an effort to bar them from buying guns. I do not like Obama and with good reason, but I was happy to read about the new law incorporating the idea I had mentioned previously on the Compendius site, as it can saves lives. However, the law was repealed on February 15, 2017 by the new administration.
AR-15 rifle Ironically, the mass shooting that occurred
at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida last
week, leaving 17 dead, perpetrated by 19-year-old Nikolas
Cruz, could have been prevented if his name had been placed
in the FBI's database, listing him as a mentally ill person,
as I suggested be done on November 30, 2015 in my
aforementioned
Last year, Cruz's adoptive mother had taken him to see a psychiatrist regarding mental problems. There were also other medical records that labeled Cruz mentally ill and impaired. Had these items been in the FBI's database that is used to do background checks regarding potential gun purchases, Cruz would have been barred from buying a weapon, as doctors would have been legally required to report his condition to the FBI. As I've stated before on this site, no one should want guns in the hands of mentally ill people. It is a recipe for death and disaster. As previously stated on the site, no civilian should be able to purchase an automatic weapon that can dispense 100 bullets a minute, as Cruz was able to do, killing 17 innocent people with the AR-15 rifle.
