Star Trek vs. Wolverine Pt 2 Star Trek Tops Box Office May 11. 2009
As I wrote several days ago, the sleek, new "Star Trek" film is going to take a good bite out of the "Wolverine" box office totals for week two. As predicated, "Wolverine" lost the number one and came in with sales of $28 million dollars, versus the "Star Trek" $79 million dollar haul.
I was never a Trekkie, but looking at the trailer, I thought the film would do well and it did. "Wolverine" currently trails behind its predecessor "X-Men 3" at the two week mark, by tens of millions of dollars ($129,032,435 in 10 days, as opposed to the $175,348,409 “X-Men 3” drew in the same amount of time).
Wolverine 'Star Trek' has galactic $76.5M opening weekend LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Star Trek" beamed itself up to the top of the box office, earning $76.5 million in its opening weekend. Paramount Pictures had estimated that the movie would make about $50 million for the weekend, but figured that strong reviews helped carry it to the bigger opening... As expected, last week's top film, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," came in at No. 2 with $27 million. The prequel to the "X-Men" franchise, starring Hugh Jackman as the mutant who slices and dices his enemies with his metal claws, has made nearly $129.6 million in two weeks... |
