Gervonta Davis mug shot
In February 2020 junior lightweight
boxing champion, Gervonta Davis, was arrested in an
incident of domestic violence, where he dragged the
mother of his child, Dretta Starr, out of an arena
by her jacket collar. The incident occurred in
Miami, Florida during Super Bowl weekend at a
charity basketball game held by Davis' promoter,
retired world champion, Floyd Mayweather.
It was later rumored that Davis
began punching Starr in the face once they were
backstage at the event. The rumor was true. In fact,
a female bystander saw Davis punching Starr in the
face and head, and tried to intervene. Davis then
punched the female bystander in the head as well.
Prosecutors in Miami have briefly
paused Davis' case, informing the presiding judge
that they wish to mull newly received documents and
make the determination whether to pursue felony
charges, rather than misdemeanor, as the
circumstances of the incident have change.
The reason for the possible change
is the doctor of the assaulted female bystander has
pronounced her deaf in one ear, due to the forceful
punch Davis inflicted, which was partially caught on
video. As there is permanent damage to one of the
victims, it constitutes felony charges.
Davis is also facing charges in a
separate case. On November 5, 2020, Davis was
involved in a serious hit and run in his hometown of
Baltimore, Maryland. Prosecutors have now charged
him with 14 criminal counts in connection with the
incident. Davis crashed his Lamborghini SUV into a
Toyota. Davis then fled the scene in a Camaro that
came to pick him up after the collision.
