Police Officer Amber Guyger Found Guilty In The
Murder Of Botham JeanOctober 1. 2019

Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, has been found
guilty in the September 6, 2019 death of financial analyst, Botham
Jean, whom she shot to death in his apartment, allegedly mistaking
it for her own. Guyger and Jean lived in the same apartment
building. Guyger lived one floor beneath Jean.
While reading sexually charged text messages from a
fellow police officer she had been dating, Guyger went to Jean's
floor, rather than her own. Guyger entered Jean's apartment and
instantly shot him dead. Jean was in his home, wearing boxer shorts,
sitting on the sofa, watching television and eating ice cream. He
was unarmed.
Many questions have been asked regarding why Guyger
did not recognize the decor in Jean's apartment was not her own.
Guyger also claimed Jean's door was open. However, it was proven
that doors in the building are equipped with locks that close and
engage automatically. Neighbors also reported hearing words
exchanged between the two. It was clear Guyger has been lying.
Prosecutors illustrated to the jury that Guyger
could have used pepper spray or the taser on her belt, to subdue
unarmed Jean, if she deemed he was a threat to her safety. However,
she chose to immediately shoot Jean. There is no excuse for this.
Pieces of the story are still missing, as Guyger is lying and the
victim who knows what happened, is dead.
Botham Jean
Guyer deemed Jean less than herself. She showed him
no courtesy, due to his race. After all, this is the woman who joked
about the death of the late civil rights hero, Martin Luther King
Jr. She also disparaged black police officers in text messages to
her fellow adulterer, Martin Rivera. Guyger stated of black police
officers, "Not racist but just have a different way of working and
it shows."
Guyger's family are also racist. She posted for a
photo with her family, in which her brother was holding up the white
power sign with his fingers. It is clear her prejudices permeated
her work and it has cost an innocent man his life, in a preventable
tragedy.
The trial lasted 7-days. Guyger mounted a defense of
self-defense and it failed. Guyger cried as the guilty verdict was
read in the courtroom. The Washington Post referred to the verdict
as, "A rare conviction in a high-profile police shooting and a
verdict that civil rights activists heralded as a victory for police
accountability."
Guyger is facing 5 to 99-years in prison, without
the possibility of probation. She should not be given the lower end
of the sentencing guideline. Her reckless deeds robbed an innocent
man of his life. Jean was gunned down in his prime. Guyger must pay
her debt to society behind bars and for a lengthy period of time.
