The family of 19-year-old Florida college
student, Miya Marcano, has filed a wrongful death
lawsuit in her passing. Marcano was murdered by
Arden Villas apartment complex maintenance worker,
Armando Manuel Caballero, 27. The family filed the
lawsuit against Arden Villas for failing to do a
proper background check on Caballero and allowing
him access to Marcano's apartment via a master key.
Caballero was obsessed with Marcano,
who repeatedly rejected his advances. He bombarded
her with text messages and she still turned him
down. He offered her his life savings and she still
turned him down. He sent her money via Cash App and
she still turned him down. However, he refused to
take no for an answer. Caballero began stalking Miya.
Then the stalking turned into murder.
The family's lawsuit
states in part, "At no time was Miya Marcano made
aware by the management of the Arden Villas that
Caballero had a criminal background, a history of
harassing women, nor was she aware that Caballero
would have unsupervised and/or free access to her
apartment."
The lawsuit also states, "Marcano
expressed her concern to employees of the Arden
villas as well as to her parents who were concerned
that Jessica Decker (manager of Arden Villas), was
not taking the safety concerns of the employees and
tenants, very seriously."
The local medical examiner's office
has yet to release a cause or time of death
regarding Marcano, who was found in a wooded field.
The family and public have many unanswered questions
regarding the timeline of events in her untimely
passing.
