Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth

The British royal family is being rocked by scandal after scandal. A few short months ago Prince Andrew (well it’s more like Prince Nonce) was forced by his mummy the Queen to resign from the royal family, after stories from women emerged that he had sex with them when they were underage minors being trafficked by the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Photos emerged of Prince Andrew with underage girls, much to the palace’s anger and embarrassment. A terrible press interview featuring Prince Andrew giving incriminating statements further complicated matters.

Then, facing a barrage of terrible press and racism regarding their interracial marriage and mixed race child, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, resigned from royal duties and moved to Canada. This is the first time since King Edward abdicated his throne and wed his mistress, Wallis Simpson, that such an event occurred.

The British public are upset with Meghan and blame her for taking Prince Harry away from them and their nation. Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, slammed her stating she is trying to turn the royal family into a Walmart, via “cheapening” it, in profiting from said association, by selling products with the Sussex name.

Mr. Markle stated he would also like to apologize to the Queen and royal family for not attending the wedding after having a heart attack. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the same view regarding the Queen in reference to Meghan. Trump stated the monarch is “deeply upset” over the departure and “I don’t think this should be happening to her.”

Some are accusing Meghan of scheming to return to an acting career, after she was forced to give it up when she married Prince Harry. Meghan appeared in the show “Suits” for years, which was filmed in Canada, where she has now returned to live in a $20,000,000 mansion with Prince Harry and son Archie.

The couple will face several million dollars per year in expenses to live outside the royal family, which could lead to Prince Harry becoming broke. I do not think it was a good idea for them to leave Britain. They have a child to protect and the British government can best do so, not a private security firm hired by the couple.

Not only will the financial costs of living outside the royal family be significant, Meghan is being blamed for everything, with people stating she had no intention of living in Britain and intended to resume her Hollywood career in America and Canada, upon marrying Prince Harry. She is being accused of taking Prince Harry away from his family and home and using her association with the royal family to become privately wealthy. It is a sad and messy situation.

People are calling Meghan a social climber. However, the biggest social climber in the royal family is Kate Middleton. She and her sibling Pippa Middleton were referred to in British social circles as “the Wisteria sisters” after the climbing flowering plant.

The Middletons are a working class family. They are not blue bloods. Not to mention, Kate essentially stalked Prince William, even enrolling at the same university (St. Andrews), modeled a see through dress at a school event she knew he would be attending, with the hope of getting his attention. Then she befriended William and they later began dating. Basically, Prince William married his stalker.

Whereas, Prince Harry saw Meghan on television and pursued her for dates then marriage. I am from a Commonwealth nation (Jamaica) and of English descent. I know British life well and what is required to be in the royal family.

I did not think a black actress, who is a staunched feminist, would be happy in the royal family, which has members with Nazi roots, and follow the tradition that one must give up one‘s career and fully devote one‘s time to royal appearances. I did not think that was for Meghan nor did I think she would take the racial harassment well.

The course of action they are undertaking in essentially using the Sussex name to sell items is not something that is done by royals. Even profiting from one’s association with the royal family is heavily frowned upon. For years, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who does not have a good name with the public, has been lambasted for endorsing and selling products for personal profit, while racking up massive debts she often defaults on, leaving Prince Andrew to pay for her lavish living from state funds.

And with Meghan and Harry being outside the royal family, their appeal to the public will only last so long, giving them a limited window to earn money, to support themselves for the rest of their lives. They are not like the average family seeking to earn a living. They are the parents of the Queen’s great-grandson and Harry is the Queen’s grandson. They will need heavy security costing over $5,000,000 per year (some experts estimate $10,000,000 per year), as they are a high value target for criminals.

I do wish Harry and Meghan the best. However, I’d be a liar and hypocrite if I did not state they are taking a huge risk leaving the royal family under these conditions and I do not think it is going to work out well.
