Black People Blamed For Proposition 8

November 14. 2008

Brad Pitt donated $100,000 to fight Proposition 8, which went through anyway

Black people are being blamed for Proposition 8, the ban on gay marriages in California, being enacted. I am offended and upset! (Well, not really).

It’s always blame the black people time and I’m tired of it! Race riot breaks out in Compton, California and it's blame the black people time. Black guy holds you up at the bank and it's blame the black people time. Black guy steals a delivery truck and it's blame the black people time!

Come to think of it, you may have a point.

Seriously, in lashing out at blacks regarding Proposition 8, some gays have taken to equating their struggle with slavery and being black.

Stop equating being black and slavery with being gay. It’s not the same thing or the same struggle.

It’s a massive insult to the millions of slaves that suffered horrible, heinous atrocities that gays are not subjected to, especially in such large numbers and on a regular basis, in the manner that it routinely transpired during that time.

Slaves were foreigners from Africa, murdered by lynching or hanging on a slave master’s whim, assaulted, denied wages for very long workdays, denied the right to own property, denied privacy, forced to live like paupers in squalor, deprived of education, denied the right to vote, sold in town squares like livestock and painfully branded like cattle.

That is not life for the average gay.

Blacks Responsible For Passage of Anti-Gay Proposition 8

It's deeply disappointing that blacks were primarily responsible for the passage of Proposition 8. According to USA Today, 70 percent of African Americans voting in favor of this discriminatory measure.

It's ironic that on the same day that we witnessed the milestone of an African American winning the presidency, it was African Americans who were responsible for denying another minority the most basic of human rights: The right to marry.
