Gay Marriage Ban Upheld In CA and FL Angry Gays Sue November 5. 2008
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie This is a follow up to the September 18, 2008 article Brad Pitt Bites Gay Ban regarding him donating $100,000 in support of gay marriage. Well, it failed. He's probably sorry he didn't save that money to spend on his next affair. Yesterday, in news that devastated Hollywood, the fruity celebrity backed push to tank the Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage has failed, like Swept Away at the box office. A similar vote was cast in Florida against same sex marriages, which produced the same outcome at the polls. California gays are not taking it lying down and have filed 3 lawsuits with the Supreme Court. Florida gays have accepted defeat and are down at the beach or something.
Seriously, I don’t want to hurt gay people’s feelings, you know, like Ryan Seacrest, but marriage is between a man and a woman, the way God intended it. Anything else is an alternative He did not sanction. While no one should deprive you of your civil rights, mistreat you in a way that violates the law or bully you for being homosexual, I’m not in favor of gay marriage or civil unions. I have nothing personal against you, but it goes against my religious beliefs. California voters approve Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriages Prop8 The measure was the most divisive on the state ballot. Its passage throws into doubt the unions of thousands of recently wed couples. 8:35 AM PST, November 5, 2008 - A measure to once again ban gay marriage in California was passed by voters in Tuesday's election, throwing into doubt the unions of an estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who wed during the last 4 1/2 months… "We caused Californians to rethink this issue," Proposition 8 strategist Jeff Flint said. Early in the campaign, he noted, polls showed the measure trailing by 17 points. "I think the voters were thinking, well, if it makes them happy, why shouldn't we let gay couples get married. And I think we made them realize that there are broader implications to society and particularly the children when you make that fundamental change that's at the core of how society is organized, which is marriage," he said. Gay rights backers file 3 lawsuits challenging Prop. 8 After losing at the polls, gay rights supporters filed three lawsuits today asking the California Supreme Court to overturn Proposition 8, an effort the measure's supporters called an attempt to subvert the will of voters. "If they want to legalize gay marriage, what they should do is bring an initiative themselves and ask the people to approve it," said Frank Schubert, co-chairman of the Proposition 8 campaign. "But they don't. They go behind the people's back to the courts and try and force an agenda on the rest of society." |
