Black Florida Woman Given 20-Years In Spite Of Stand Your Ground Law May 12. 2012
Marissa Alexander This is a follow up to the April 23, 2012 article "Stand Your Ground Double Standard Leaves Black Woman Jailed In Domestic Violence Case." Yesterday, African-American, Marissa Alexander, was unjustly sentenced to 20-years in prison. It reveals the disparities in the legal system. Alexander's husband outright threatened to kill her in their home, prompting her to fire off a single shot in self-defense, which hit the wall and no one was hurt, yet she has been sentenced to two decades in prison. Whereas, half white, George Zimmerman, was initially given a free pass for stalking and murdering 17-year-old minor, Trayvon Martin, without provocation. It took massive protests to even get Zimmerman arrested, only for a judge to grant him bail, regarding a case that has many wondering if there will be justice for Martin, who wasn't bothering anyone, yet was unjustly and unnecessarily killed for racist reasons.
