Judge Recuses Herself In The Trayvon Martin Case Over Conflict Of Interest It Was The Right Decision April 19. 2012
Jessica Recksiedler Judge Jessica Recksiedler has removed herself from the Trayvon Martin murder trial, concerning the 17-year-old murder victim, who was killed by George Zimmerman, 28, after an incident of racial profiling. Judge Recksiedler disclosed the conflict of interest, after it was revealed her husband worked with a CNN employee Zimmerman asked to represent him.
George Zimmerman Recksiedler stated in her ruling, “The cumulative effect of the events and the totality of the circumstances provides a legally sufficient basis for this Court to grant the Motion to Disqualify.” The new judge on the case is Kenneth R. Lester Jr. Some judges hang on to cases they should not, due to conflict of interest, believing they can get away with bias. At least Recksiedler recused herself, as to do otherwise could have tainted the case.
