Berto Busted: Betrayed By Email

March 27. 2007

Alberto Gonzales: what did you expect me to say, "I knew about it," then don't pass go and go straight to jail.

Berto Busted...well, not literally...at least not yet. Mr. Gonzales has been caught in a lie and he's not even in Congress or under oath yet.

If he had been under oath when he made the denials about his role in Attorneygate, he'd be under indictment right about now.

Looks like my article from Wednesday, March 21, 2007 titled Senate Hearings On Alberto Gonzales US Attorney Scandal Set To Begin was a bit prophetic. I wrote in that article “Berto, you got some esplaning to do,” employing the famous Ricky Ricardo phrase.

Three days later, on Saturday, March 24, 2007, the ABC news web site ran an article titled “Critics: Gonzales has some explaining to do” based on documents released on Friday March 25, 2007, implicating him.

The aforementioned documents revealed Alberto was not truthful in his previous statements to the nation, regarding his involvement in the scandal and had way more to do with the firings than he previously stated.

Documents released to Congress on Friday March 25, 2007, revealed he attended an hour-long meeting regarding firing the 8 U.S. attorneys, which completely contradicted his earlier statements that he had nothing to do with it, only signing off on the dismissals.

I reiterate what I said on the 21st, "Berto, you got some esplaining to do."

Critics: Gonzales Has Some Explaining to Do

Some Say E-Mail Contradicts Gonzales' Prior Comments on Controversial Firings
By SONYA CRAWFORD

March 24, 2007 — Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may have been more involved in the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys than he previously admitted.

Among the 280 documents released by the Justice Department to congressional investigators is an e-mail detailing a meeting between Gonzales and senior aides on Nov. 27, 2006 — 10 days before the dismissals were carried out.

Last week, Gonzales said he was not involved in the details of the plan, saying, "I never saw documents. We never had a discussion about where things stood."
