Wikipedia Making The Kids Dumb June 23. 2008
While Wikipedia can be a useful tool for lazy webmasters and bloggers who can't be bothered to search for pictures for their site *whistling* it is making the kids dumb. The publicly edited encyclopedia, that is often strewn with errors, is being blamed for falling test scores. I have to agree that it can be full of inaccuracies.
50 Cent One day I logged on to Wikipedia and it said "50 Cent is a Mexican gaylord." I thought to myself, "Wow, I didn't know 50 Cent was Mexican." Seriously, it did say that, proving you can log on at any given time and get the absolute wrong information. Imagine little Timmy's creative writing assignment starting off with the line
" Once I logged on and it said Madonna can sing. I laughed 'til I cried. Ok, that last one didn't happen as true as it is, but the 50 Cent one did. Falling exam passes blamed on Wikipedia 'littered with inaccuracies' WIKIPEDIA and other online research sources were yesterday blamed for Scotland's falling exam pass rates. The Scottish Parent Teacher Council (SPTC) said pupils are turning to websites and internet resources that contain inaccurate or deliberately misleading information before passing it off as their own work. |
