Why Has Rap Music Become So Violent & Explicit

Why has rap music become so vulgar, violent and explicit? Why is everything so negative. It certainly hasn't added to its entertainment value. In my humble opinion, the quality of the music has massively fallen off. Not to mention, more than ever, rappers are on the court dockets for various crimes.

Why the negative change. It's not exactly helping the kids or the music. While one wants to be accurate in their music, why get so graphic.

Rappers use to talk about the bad things in the ghetto without resorting to such violent imagery and sexually explicit content. I'm not saying every old school record was positive, but they weren't overwhelmingly negative as the majority are today.

There use to be more upbeat rap music like "One Love" by Whodini" and "Teenage Love" by Slick Rick. There were rappers like Kool Moe Dee that sought to bring intelligence to their raps and issued songs like "I Go To Work."

When the Sugarhill Gang debuted, it wasn't with the type of lowest common denominator material audiences are hearing and seeing today.
