John McCain Apologizes To Ejected Black Reporter

August 7. 2008

Republican presidential nominee John McCain has apologized to a black reporter that was ejected from a media area by the U.S. Secret Service, while white reporters were allowed to stay. That was weird.

I can see why the reporter felt he was isolated because of his race, as that unprovoked ejection looks strange. However, an apology was extended and accepted.

McCain camp apologizes to black reporter

August 7, 2008 - 7:20AM - TALLAHASSEE - The presidential campaign for Sen. John McCain has apologized to a Tallahassee newspaper reporter for denying him access to the presidential candidate during a rally Friday in Panama City, The Associated Press reported...

"I accept the apology," said Price, who said he was singled out because he is black. "I definitely wish I was never singled out. I came up there to do a story; that's all I wanted to do is write a story." ...

"It's the right thing for the McCain campaign to do," Gabordi said. "Our issue remains with the Secret Service agent. His actions are still a problem. The senator's campaign has done the right thing, and we appreciate that."

Price said in a previous interview with Florida Freedom Newspapers that Secret Service agents removed him from an area that he was told was reserved for McCain's traveling press corps. But Price insists other state media were permitted to stay, so he was concerned he was targeted because of his race. The Secret Service denies any racial influence in the decision but is looking into how the situation was handled.
