Republican presidential running mate, Sarah Palin, is at the center of an investigation regarding the dismissal of an employee that wouldn't fire her sister’s husband. Palin however, is refusing to answer questions deeming the investigation “tainted."

Palin unlikely to speak with investigator, Democrats react

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska Democrats say the McCain campaign is engaging in "stall and smear" tactics.

That's the reaction to the campaign's statement that vice-presidential nominee Governor Sarah Palin is "unlikely to cooperate" with an independent counsel to review Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner….

But a McCain spokesman charges that the probe ordered by lawmakers is "tainted." Palin, before being named as John McCain's running mate, initially said she welcomed the inquiry.

At issue is whether she fired the commissioner for failing to fire a state trooper involved with a messy divorce from her sister. The McCain campaign says Palin can document that the firing resulted from insubordination.
