Coronavirus Cases On The Rise Again In America Since Easing Lockdown Restrictions

June 11. 2020

Boardwalk in Maryland filled with people not social distancing and many not wearing masks on Memorial Day weekend 2-weeks ago

Memorial Day in America, where places such as the boardwalk in Maryland were ramp packed with people, not social distancing and many not wearing masks, has resulted in a spike in coronavirus cases in America. Far right protestors who stormed the legislature and others who took to the streets demanding the country be reopened, all while not social distancing or wearing masks, has led to another spike in coronavirus cases.

Some people still wrongly believe the virus is a hoax and have taken no precautions. They have contracted the virus and some of them have become "superspreaders" infecting many others. Now that businesses in America have begun reopening, an overall spike in new cases has been registered. The coronavirus has killed over 110,000 people in America. As repeatedly stated on the site for the past several weeks, a second wave of the virus is coming.

Coronavirus in the U.S.: Latest Map and Case Count

By The New York Times Updated June 11, 2020, 8:42 P.M. E.T. - More than 2,033,400 people in the United States have been infected with the coronavirus and at least 113,900 have died, according to a New York Times database. This map shows where the number of new cases is rising and where it is falling in the last 14 days.

As states move to partly reopen their economies, thousands of new cases are still being identified each day and true normalcy remains a distant vision. Every day, more beloved events are scrubbed from the calendar. There will be no Mountain Brewers Beer Fest in Idaho, no Paperfest in Wisconsin, no Dragon Boat Bash in Iowa.

These states have had recent growth in newly reported cases over the last 14 days, in part because some have recently ramped up their testing capacity. The White House released criteria for states to reopen based on a “downward trajectory” of cases over the last 14 days, though it did not define how to measure the trajectory. Scales are adjusted for each state to make the curve more readable...
