Birkhead's Bill

April 14. 2007

Lawyer Debra Opri to new daddy Larry Birkhead: show me the money!

According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, Larry Birkhead's lawyer, Debra Opri, presented him with a legal bill for a whopping$620,000 for representing him in the Anna Nicole Smith paternity case. Is that all.

She has now sued Birkhead for payment.

Some of the items on the bill are exorbitant and inappropriate. Thousands of dollars in lobster meals and $1500 per month for her, not his publicist, to name a few. She charged him for everything, down to her husband's dry cleaning for his unmentionables.

That's a lot of money for a few months legal work. It's not like you got O.J. off a murder charge. That bill is high and inappropriate under the circumstances:

1.) Opri has received invaluable publicity from taking this case that money could not buy.

2.) A little girl who lost her mother and brother is involved, who some of that $620,000 should go to, instead of legal fees.

3.) If it were me and I were a lawyer on this type of case, I'd have done it pro bono, due to the tragedy surrounding it.

4.) If money is that much of an issue that he was given a legal bill that high for a few months work, Opri should have done paid interviews to bring in some money to her firm. What am I saying. She probably did.

Everyone is stunned at the bill (well, everyone except lawyers). She needs to cut that unconscionable bill right down. It is doing her no favors in the court of public opinion.
