Americans Facing Hearing Loss
July 29. 2008

According to a study, Americans are facing a greater degree of hearing loss.
I would attribute it to the increased popularity of MP3 players. Excessive use
of headphones, especially at increased volumes, has been known to wreak havoc on
the ears.

In short, turn the MP3 players down and turn your computer speakers down to a
comfortable and safe volume level. Another important item of note.
Constantly staring at a computer screen, especially at night, can diminish your
vision. Try to avoid too much night time computer use. Over time it adds up.

Mon Jul 28, 4:14 PM ET - CHICAGO (Reuters) - One of
three U.S. adults already suffers from some degree of hearing loss and the use
of personal stereos and an aging population may create a hearing impairment
epidemic, researchers said on Monday. A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore
estimated that 55 million Americans have hearing loss in one or both ears, with
men, whites and the least-educated most affected.
