Woman Beaten By Police In Restaurant In Front Of Customers April 27. 2011
Ashley Leavell was seated in a IHop restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia, when she was confronted by local police, who demanded she and her three friends leave the eatery. Leavell and her friends said they were told by a man, who they did not know was a police officer, as he did not identify himself, "Shut up, be quiet, you need to leave." The officer, who was not wearing a policeman's cap, began to drag one of the women out of her seat. This is when Leavell intervened, attempting to hold her friend in the chair. The police officer is seen on video slapping Leavell across the face. She responds by hitting him back. His fellow officer then struck petite Leavell as well, with the two punching her in the face, as though she is a massive man attacking them. The video was uploaded to YouTube, prompting public cries of police brutality and excessive force. The women have retained an Atlanta attorney to sue the police and understandably so.
