Viola Davis Is Hurt By Heavy Public Criticism Of Her Terrible Movie Portrayal Of Former First Lady Michelle Obama

Twitter users slammed Hollywood actress, Viola Davis, for her terrible portrayal of former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama. Davis turned in a horrible performance as Mrs. Obama for Showtime's three part series "First Lady." Davis repeatedly pursed her lips in a very unflattering manner, which resulted in some believing she was mocking Mrs. Obama.

I thought the lines she was given were distasteful as well. Many on social networking wanted other actresses to play Mrs. Obama. Many did not object when they read Davis would betaking on the role. However, now that the public has seen the finished product, people are not amused.

Davis stated, "“Critics absolutely serve no purpose. And I’m not saying that to be nasty either. They always feel like they’re telling you something that you don’t know,. “Somehow that you’re living a life that you’re surrounded by people who lie to you and ‘I’m going to be the person that leans in and tells you the truth. So it gives them an opportunity to be cruel to you. But ultimately I feel like it is my job as a leader to make bold choices. Win or fail it is my duty to do that. Either you’re doing too much or not enough. How do you move on from the hurt, from failure? But you have to. Not everything is going to be an awards-worthy performance.”

That's the point, though. For a historic figure it should have been an awards-worthy performance. Your portrayal was bizarre, goofy and amateurish. You usually do better than this. People just want to know why you kept sticking out your lips like that, plucked your eyebrows into oblivion and spoke in Ebonix, when Mrs. Obama does not do any of those things. Seriously, why?
