The Complexities Of L.A. Reid's New $75 Million Deal Now That His Name Has Been Tarnished By Sex Scandal At Sony February 23. 2018
L.A. Reid Fired music executive, Antonio "L.A." Reid has reportedly raised $75,000,000 to start a new music company. However, reports indicate Reid intends to revive his old Hitco music publishing company and turn it into a record label as well. Reid will likely employ his two oldest sons, who have lost their jobs in the music industry due to their father's fall from grace. Reid was forced out of Sony Music's Epic Records imprint, after he got the labels sued for sexual harassment. Reid repeatedly sexually harassed his secretary and embezzled money. There are other claims of sexual harassment against Reid floating around the industry. Reid has a number of challenges facing him in starting his own company again. The first time around was in 1989 with the successful LaFace Records label, he co-founded with former production partner, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Back then, L.A. and Babyface were scandal free, in demand producers. Babyface is still singing, writing and producing with his name currently intact. However, Reid's name was obliterated in the sexual harassment lawsuit that Sony Music settled last year, rather than the matter potentially going to trial and even more embarrassing details coming out. Reid's name is also destroyed among certain fanbases, over what they deem is bad conduct on his part, in reference to their favorite singers' careers. The fanbase of girl group Fifth Harmony constantly slam Reid on social networking, stating he did not promote the group enough and had a sexual affair with Camilla Cabello, whom he pushed to go solo, damaging the group. Fifth Harmony have not sold many albums (barely a million copies in pure sales between three albums) but have sold a few million singles (there is not much revenues in single sales, as compared to albums). Toni Braxton and TLC's fanbases dislike Reid, as they blame him for the bankruptcy the former LaFace Records artists faced in the 1990s. Some Mariah Carey fans dislike Reid for things that went wrong with her career. Carey is has not had a hit in many years and is struggling through live performances. How is Reid going to effectively sell records as a label boss with so many fanbases disliking him and more importantly, the #MeToo movement of sexual assault victims opposing him as well. Another case in point, the taint of being associated with now disgraced movie producer, Harvey Weinstein, has cost movies millions of dollars in ticket revenues (The Taint Of The Harvey Weinstein Sex Scandal Impacted Sales Of 'Paddington 2' At The Box Office). Reid should know by now that image accounts for much in the entertainment industry. Look what happened to Sony Music singer Chris Brown after court cases regarding domestic violence against two ex-girlfriends. People do not want him to front their brands, his sales have gone down and he is constantly slammed in print and on social networking. It has hampered his career.
