April 5. 2020
Dontae Anderson-DeBarge
35-year-old Dontae Anderson-DeBarge was
found stabbed to death in Los Angeles. He is the son of
solo singer, Chico DeBarge, whose brothers and sister
were members of the hit 1980s music group DeBarge.

Dontae fell on hard times and became
homeless. Police found his body in the Van Nuys area of
Los Angeles. Officers tried to administer CPR, but they
were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead on the
scene. Family and friends of Dontae have posted their
condolences online.
DeBarge
The DeBarge family, like so many who
became famous in Hollywood during the 1980s, fell into
drug addiction. Several members of the family have
publicly spoken about their struggles with substance
abuse. The family had several hit songs, but fame
brought problems they did not expect. Previously, Chico
and his late brother, Bobby DeBarge, engaged in drug
trafficking, for which they spent 5-years in prison.
Bobby died in 1995 from AIDS.

"Rhythm of the Night"
In a strange twist of irony, in 2003,
while on tour with Tyler Perry for the play "Why Did I
Get Married" Chico was stabbed in a night club by
Italian mafia member John "Johnny Gongs" Casasanto.
Chico nearly died in the incident, as the stab wound was
inches from his kidney and lungs. Casasanto was murdered
2-weeks later.
