Programmer Jailed For Stealing $1 Billion In Secrets From Intel To AMD To Prison November 28. 2008
In an age in corporate America, where some employees and companies are resorting to criminal tactics to make so-called easy money, a man has been arrested for stealing $1 billion dollars worth of intellectual property (copyrights, patents) from his employer Intel to take over to rival AMD. Biswamohan Pani, told his bosses at Intel that he was taking the week off to seek another job. During that time, he illegally downloaded $1 billion dollars worth of copyrights, patents and trade secrets from Intel’s computer servers and tried to take it with him to gain employment with their rival AMD. He has been indicted and is now facing decades in prison. Talk about grand theft larceny. I don’t know why people think they can get away with such things. One way or another, it always catches up with people. Ex-Intel Engineer Accused Of Stealing $1 Billion In Trade Secrets A former Intel (NSDQ: INTC) engineer who left the chipmaker to work for rival Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) has been indicted on federal charges accusing him of stealing $1 billion worth of trade secrets from Intel. Biswamohan Pani, 33, was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Massachusetts on four counts of wire fraud, which were added to charges of trade-secret theft filed against the defendant in August in U.S. District Court in Boston. If convicted, the Worcester, Mass., engineer would face up to 10 years in prison for the theft charge and a maximum of 20 years for each wire fraud charge. Pani was free on $100,000 bail. |
