Prince William Is Threatening Lawsuits In
America And Britain Over Cheating Scandal That Has Left Kate
Middleton Very Upset

A scandal has been churning in Britain and
made its way to Europe and America, among other places,
regarding Prince William, 36, cheating on his wife, Kate
Middleton, 37, with her best friend and neighbor, Rose
Hanbury. The cheating is said to have occurred last year
when Middleton was pregnant with their third child. Many
gossip rags have carried the story, as have blogs, causing
William and Kate a huge amount of embarrassment. Their image
of the perfect life has been shattered and for all to see.
The couple first began dating in 2003 and wed in
2011, after Middleton waited for William to settle down, in what
seemed like forever. The press and public mockingly branded her
“Waity Katy.” Whereas, his brother, Prince Harry, 34, met and
married his wife, Meghan Markle, 37, within two-years of first
laying eyes on her.
The story is also making its way around social
networking, among millions of people, with people slamming
William over his alleged infidelity. Many have stated they are
disappointed in him, as his father, Prince Charles, cheated on
his mother, the late Princess Diana, now he is (allegedly) doing
the same regarding his wife. Charles’ cheating damaged his wife
and children on many levels. The cheating and ensuing scandal
caused so much heartbreak. Princess Diana took it especially
badly, which is understandable.
William’s stock is plummeting with this scandal.
Middleton has been looking very upset and miffed during public
appearances since the scandal broke, causing members of the
public to speculate regarding the adultery claims. Recently,
paparazzi caught the family on a day out with other members of
the royal family, such as William’s cousin Zara Phillips (the
Queen’s granddaughter), her husband Mike Tindall, and their
children. Kate’s face was like thunder in the photos. She was
very cold towards William and avoided him throughout the outing.
Acutely aware of the bad pres he is facing,
William, via his attorneys (solicitors) in London, Harbottle and
Lewis, have been firing off cease and desist letters, demanding
publications such as In Touch magazine, refrain from running the
adultery story in America. However, “the cat is out of the bag.”
Stopping that story at this point is like trying to get the
toothpaste back in the tube.
The way U.S. law works is one can report on a
preexisting story already in the press without being
successfully sued for it, depending upon the language you use.
It is imperative that one uses the word “allegedly“ and makes
clear it is not an exclusive story or one original to your
outlet (newspaper, site, ect.). This language makes it difficult
to sue a journalist or blogger for reporting on a story already
in the public domain. In essence, you are re-reporting something
published elsewhere.
Courts have ruled against litigants bringing
libel, slander or defamation cases in such instances. However,
if you originate a story that contains allegations that are not
true, especially if written with willful malice, you can be
successfully sued in U.S. courts, especially if the individual
bringing the lawsuit has money to get the case heard.
In Britain it is much easier to sue for slander,
libel or defamation. The court’s interpretation of the law is
very simple and to the point. If you publish something that is
proven to be untrue, you are causing injury to another person’s
reputation and must pay financial damages. The damages are often
substantial, in rulings meant to act as a deterrent to others,
serving as a warning to refrain from similar libelous conduct.
