Graphic and jarring police bodycam
footage has been released regarding the shooting
death of 16-year-old Columbus, Ohio girl, Ma'Khia
Bryant, who was a foster child and honor roll
student. Police were called to a disturbance in
Walnut Heights area of Columbus and arrived on the
scene within 8-minutes.
A white officer observed Bryant
running past him with a knife in her hand, while
charging at another teenage girl. The officer
quickly shoots Bryant 4 TIMES. She falls to the
ground unresponsive. A man outside the house in
shock stated to the officer, "She's just a kid! Are
you stupid" Bryant is pronounced dead a half an hour
later.
Police Chief Michael Woods stated
police are permitted to use deadly force to "protect
themselves and others." However, four shots is
excessive and constitutes police brutality. He did
not have to kill the underage girl to stop the
stabbing.
There exists a problem regarding how
Ohio police react to situations concerning children.
