Parents Prevail In Court
Against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Mask Ban
(Video)
August 27. 2021
Florida governor Ron DeSantis
suffered a big setback today, as U.S. circuit court
judge, John C. Cooper ruled against his mask ban. In
a 110 page ruling, Judge Cooper stated, “the actions
of the defendants (DeSantis) do not pass
constitutional muster. They seek to deprive the
school boards in advance.”
Judge Cooper pointed out the fact
schools are permitted under Florida Statues and the
Constitution to reasonably act at their discretion
regarding rules to keep students safe. It is quite
reasonable to make rules regarding children wearing
masks to school for the health and safety of
themselves and others. It is not an unreasonable
request.
DeSantis stated the ruling is “made
with incoherent justifications, not base din science
and facts” On the contrary, lab tests prove masks
work (Lab
Demonstration Proves That Wearing Masks Work In The
Face Of Coronavirus). This is a very serious
matter. DeSantis needs to stop playing politics with
children’s lives.
In other DeSantis news regarding
kids, DeSantis is being slammed for opting out of
$820 million in federal funding that would feed 2
million poor children in Florida (even though other
Republican governors in America have opted into the
program).
Why would you do that. Food is so
expensive. Parents are struggling. They need to feed
their kids. Why would you take away much needed
help, making parents’ lives harder, especially
during a pandemic. The money is not coming out of
your personal bank account. Why are you acting like
it’s your money and not the taxpayers money going
back into their pockets to feed their kids.
Shameful!
Proper nutrition is essential for
brain health and kids functioning properly in
school. If they are deprived of the proper
nutrients, via a balanced diet, and are going to
school hungry, it will be difficult for them to
focus on their lessons.
Ron DeSantis
DeSantis has gone rogue. He’s not
even listening to members of his own party.
Republican Miami mayor, Carlos Gimenez, referred to DeSantis as a “dictator” who is no longer taking
people’s calls. DeSantis is also at odds with
Florida governor-turned-senator, Rick Scott.
The Republicans need to replace
DeSantis. He's not listening to reason. He has
become a liability. He’s being referred to as the
worst governor in America and his nickname on social
networking is “DeathSantis” due to his poor handling
of the coronavirus.
My tweets on Twitter.com about DeSantis and
the mask ban
DeSantis needs to reevaluate his
conduct. The state of Florida is fatigued and
distressed from the fighting over masks and other
safety measures, via DeSantis legal wrangling in
courts. The people of Florida are weary regarding
the crime rate having gone up since DeSantis
declared Florida open during a pandemic, when many
states were still sheltering in place.
People are coming to Florida to cut
loose after being on lockdown. However, some
people’s definition of going on vacation to Florida
has become taking drugs then committing crimes, such
as murder. They are trying to turn Florida’s into
the video game Grand Theft Auto (GTA) with shootings
on the streets and illegal sexual conduct. There
have been rapes and sexual assaults. People have
been beaten on sidewalks on South Beach. DeSantis
needs to focus on fixing that, rather than fighting
schools who are trying to save children’s lives.
Miami also has a lot of urban decay.
DeSantis needs to turn his attention to remedying
that, rather than fighting with businesses about
coronavirus rules corporations have adopted to keep
the public safe. So much of this discord and rancor
could be avoided. Everyone needs to get on the same
page and that's safety first.

DeSantis' Covid policy in Florida could
backfire
Florida Gov. Ron Desantis' war on school
districts is getting pushback, and it could cost him
his White House dreams.
Aug. 27, 2021, 4:52 AM -05 / Updated
Aug. 27, 2021, 12:22 PM - UPDATE (Aug. 27, 2021,
1:20 p.m. ET): A Florida state judge struck down
Gov. Ron DeSantis' ban on mask mandates on Friday,
arguing that school districts have the right to set
mask policies.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has
zealously opposed basic public health policies that
would slow the spread of Covid-19 in his state,
often in a manner that appears designed to garner
support for a 2024 White House bid as a Trumpian
firebrand.
DeSantis’ general approach of Covid
denial is not resonating with most of his
constituents. But as Florida emerges as the nation’s
coronavirus epicenter, we’ve seen a slide in DeSantis’ approval rating and a growing rebellion
among school districts against his ban on mask
mandates.
What’s becoming increasingly evident is that his
commitment to appealing to a hard-line conservative
base is not just producing an unconscionable policy
outlook — it’s also a risky political strategy that
makes him look incompetent and weak and could
endanger his chances of re-election in 2022...

Florida missing out on millions of dollars in
federal aid for childhood hunger
Aug 24, 2021 at 2:09 PM - Florida
has “made no effort” to apply for $820 million in
pandemic SNAP benefits intended to help more than 2
million low-income children have enough to eat
during the summer, making it one of only a handful
of states ignoring the program, advocates said
Tuesday.
The funds, made available under the American Rescue
Plan Act of 2021, would cover up to 90 days of
summer break between school years — a one-time bonus
of $375 in benefits per child under SNAP, the
Supplemental Food Assistance Program, or food
stamps. The benefit can be awarded retroactively.
The Florida Department of Children
and Families, which administers SNAP within the
state, has not yet applied for the program, though
it has had since April to do so. Meanwhile, at least
38 other states have applied and been approved for
the funds, as have Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C.,
and American Samoa. Executives with the nonpartisan
Florida Policy Institute said they and several
prominent anti-hunger organizations have tried
without success to get an explanation from DCF,
which also did not respond to a media request to
comment on the situation.
“Given the enormous impact that
COVID-19 has had on our state’s most vulnerable
families, it doesn’t make sense just to leave this
money on the table,” said attorney Cindy Huddleston,
a senior policy analyst with the Florida Policy
Institute. “We don’t want that window to close.”
The USDA memo on the program does
not list an application deadline, although it does
say the program is intended to get benefits to
eligible families as quickly as possible. The
benefits can only be used to buy food and are
awarded through what looks like a debit card that
recipients use at stores, farmers markets and
selected online grocers.
Floridians already have been cut off
from extra SNAP allotments provided to states that
still have COVID-19 public health emergency
declarations. Gov. Ron DeSantis opted not to renew
the emergency declaration for Florida after Aug. 1.
That amounted to denying an extra $73 a month to the
poorest households.
Huddleston said there’s no
disadvantage to applying for the benefits. The
federal government has created a template to
streamline the application process. “We’re very
concerned because this is $820 million to help feed
children, and it’s also money that would be spent in
local grocery stores, which could really be a boon
to the community,” Huddleston said…
Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana,
Missouri and Texas are among the 38 states that
already have applied for the summer benefits and had
their plans approved…
