Obama's Military Spending April 10. 2009
President Barack Obama President Barack Obama has requested $84 billion dollars in military funding from Congress. Obama plans to send thousands more troops to Afghanistan, which will create a sizable build up, that in my estimation, shall be more than is needed. While there are credible threats in Afghanistan, this planned troop build up has the potential of reach full war status. The very thing that helped to deplete America's resources via the Iraq war. Though it is certainly less than all the money former president George W. Bush spent in the Middle East, Obama should be careful that he does not go down that slippery slope, that heads in that direction. "The Taliban is resurgent and al Qaeda threatens America from its safe haven along the Afghan-Pakistan border," Obama said in a letter to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives, that was released by the White House. Obama said 95 percent of the $83.4 billion in supplemental funds he was requesting would go to support U.S. military operations in Iraq and the U.S. effort to disrupt and defeat al Qaeda... |
