Obama Chooses Black As Race On Census Form April 3. 2010
U.S. President Barack Obama U.S. President Barack Obama, chose black as his race, when filling out a national census form this week. This event made the news, as Obama is half white and black. However, many biracial people of that heritage, often choose black, due to long held rules in U.S. history ("One drop rule"). Over the past few months, the U.S. government has undertaken a big push to get the word out to the public, that it seeks to gain as much information as possible to compile accurate records on the composition of the nation. News Politics U.S. Government U.S. Politics White House A White House spokesman confirmed that when President Obama, the son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, filled out the 2010 census questionnaire, he checked "African-American". President Obama was born in Hawaii, and was raised there as well as in Indonesia. In responding to Question 9 about race, he was presented with more than a dozen options. He could have checked off white, both black and white, or checked the last category on the form "some other race", which he would then have to identify in writing. But Obama chose to check off only "Black, African Am., or Negro", and did not identify with his Caucasian roots... |
