Disgraced attorney, Michael Avenatti, was thrown in
jail after being convicted in February of attempting to extort
$25,000,000 from multi-billion dollar company Nike. Avenatti was
housed at New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. However, due
to the coronavirus outbreak, Avenatti has been temporarily released
for 90-days. Avenatti posted $1,000,000 bond and will be on house
arrest at at friend’s home in Los Angeles.
Avenatti went from a beachfront mansion and luxury
penthouse suite in California, to a dinky jail cell at a facility,
which he complained about in March, as being freezing, moldy and
with rodents present. Spending 90-days outside jail will be a
welcome reprieve. However, reentering jail will not be pleasant.
Avenatti is also facing criminal charges regarding allegations he
stole millions of dollars from clients. This is in addition to
allegations of criminal tax fraud being pursued by the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS).
