Meghan Markle Is Eclipsing The Royal Family

Former actress Meghan Markle joined the British royal family this year when she wed Prince Harry in May. In doing so she became the Duchess of Sussex. In the lead up to the wedding there was a significant amount of controversy as she is half black and white, and Harry is white. The aristocracy often looks down upon black people, whom many in said social set believe should be returned to Africa.

Nonetheless, Markle’s wedding to Harry went forward. The Queen sat with a grim expression on her face for the entire ceremony, in stark contrast to her appearance at the nuptials of other royals where she happily smiled. To many people’s surprise, the wedding received a significant amount of press and public attention. To many people’s surprise Markle also became the center of attention without even trying.

Prior to the wedding, the press pitted Markle against fashionista Kate Middleton, who is the wife of Prince William, also known as the Duke of Cambridge. Markle has now become more popular than Middleton…and the rest of the royal family. Markle is regularly featured in the press and on the blogs. Markle’s appearances and fashion choices garner a significant amount of attention on pop culture websites, blogs and entertainment shows. She has become a fan favorite.

Markle recently announced that she is 3-months pregnant. Meghan and Harry are expecting their first child in April 2019. This has drawn even more press attention, which will only increase as her pregnancy goes on. The young woman from humble beginnings has become a global star. I find it all amusing, fitting and poetic justice, for the snide remarks that some had made due to her race. Markle's rise has put a smirk on my face for that reason.
