Man Faked Death In Plane Crash And Gets Arrested January 14. 2009
Marcus Schrenker attempted to fake his death by parachuting from an airplane. He called in a distress signal before ejecting and deliberately allowing the plane to crash. 'Fake Death' Pilot Emails Friend A missing American businessman suspected of faking his death has apparently contacted a close friend and been spotted by police. Marcus Schrenker, an accomplished pilot, went missing on Sunday night after making a distress call from his single-engine plane... Police say Mr Schrenker appears to have intentionally parachuted from his plane before it crashed - and has been missing ever since... Recently, Mr Schrenker lost a $500,000 (£340,000) lawsuit against one of his companies when he failed to show in court. His wife also filed for divorce and detectives searched his home and offices in connection with the fraud allegations. U.S. arrests pilot accused of faking death MIAMI (Reuters) - U.S. marshals have arrested a pilot accused of parachuting out of his plane and letting it crash in an apparent attempt to avoid financial fraud prosecution by faking his death, an investigator said late on Tuesday. The pilot, Marcus Schrenker, 38, was arrested late on Tuesday at a campsite in the north Florida town of Quincy, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Haines said by e-mail. |
