Maine Mass Shooter Robert Card
Found Dead (Videos)
October 28. 2023
40-year-old Maine mass shooter,
Robert Card, was found dead from suicide, after he
shot and killed 18 people and wounded 13 at a
bowling alley and bar this week. Card opened fire at
Schemengees Bar and Grille, and Just-In-Time
Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine.
Card was found dead at a location
near the Androscoggin River, from a self-inflicted
gunshot wound. It put to an end the two-day manhunt
that saw law enforcement from several regions
attempt to find Card.
Published reports indicate, Card, a
U.S. Army reservist, was institutionalized at a
psychiatric facility for 2-weeks, then released.
Card was hearing voices and struggling with
depression. Card likely stopped taking his
psychiatric medicines after he was released on an
outpatient basis. Hence the mass shooting.
This is the problem with outpatient
treatment as it relates to major mental illnesses
such as schizophrenia. Some milder forms of
schizophrenia are properly controlled with medicines
on an outpatient basis, regarding patients who are
of the frame of mind to take their meds regularly.
They can function in society without incident.
However, some cases of schizophrenia are severe and
require more rigorous medical intervention and
supervision.
