Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old sister of Britney Spears, is pregnant by her live in boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. Yea, you read that right – the words 16 year old and pregnant and live in boyfriend in the same sentence.

Nickelodeon has been having a serious Maalox moment, because think about it, how does it look, the 16-year-old star role model of your “wholesome” kids TV show on a kids network is more pregnant than an IVF patient (IVF patients don’t just have a kid, they usually have a litter of kids at once – it’s just a bountiful harvest).

What’s most shocking about this story is not that she got pregnant at 16 years old, though I don’t encourage it (still at least she’s not having an abortion), but that she’s living with a guy out of wedlock at that age.

A few months ago I read an article about Lynn Spears, Jamie’s mother, helping her find an apartment in L.A. to share with her boyfriend. At the time I thought it was a terrible idea. Not only did it look inappropriate, it was and still is inappropriate.

Furthermore, what did you think was going to happen to an underage minor playing house. Lynn Spears is her legal guardian. She had no business allowing a 16-year-old girl to get an apartment with her boyfriend.

When she came up to you with that idea, your answer should not have been “let’s go apartment hunting” – it should have been, “How can you move in with him when mommy is going to need you to bail her out of jail for aggravated assault and battery on him. Now, go sit down and watch Scooby Doo, mommy is busy.”

Age 16 was just too young for this and I believe people should be married first. Remember that parenting book you said you were going to put out next year, Lynn, you better cancel it.
