Heavily Contested 2020 U.S.
Presidential Election Heads To The Courts
Trump vs. Biden
November 4. 2020
Donald Trump and Joe Biden at the presidential debate
The 2020 U.S. Presidential election has
experienced record voter turnout. Despite this fact, the
votes are still being counted one day after the election
and no winner has been officially determined. U.S.
president Donald Trump received more votes in 2020 than
2016. Rival and former vice president, Joe Biden,
received more votes than former running mate Barack
Obama in 2008 and 2012.
Four states are up for grabs (Georgia,
Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Michigan). Republicans
are currently holding the Senate. Democrats have a
smaller majority in the House, having lost two seats in
Miami, Florida. Democrats have seen an erosion in Latino
support via the vote. Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell
have been reelected in their leadership positions.
The president has filed lawsuits in
Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia in trying to stop the
vote count. He is alleging votes have appeared overnight
and pass the election deadline, which constitutes
cheating. The election is resembling the 2000 electoral
fight (Bush vs. Gore) that ended up decided by the U.S.
Supreme Court.
