Former Cuban prime minister and president, Fidel Castro died on November 25, 2016 and was laid to rest yesterday in Cuba. Castro's ashes were scattered at an undisclosed location. Castro was 90-years-old. Castro survived 600 assassination attempts by the U.S. government, after assuming power by force in 1959. Many Cubans fled for Miami, Florida, leaving everything behind, including their homes, in what was very traumatic and distressing. Castro seized homes and businesses, fully plunging Cuba into communism. A Cuban embargo was enacted by the U.S. government in a bid to economically strangle the island. However, it failed to accomplish the desired goal and brought great economic suffering on the Cuban people. The embargo did not hurt Castro, who many state lived in luxury.

Former U.S. Preisdent, Bill Clinton, eased aspects of the embargo in the 1990s. Then, current President, Barack Obama, loosened more restrictions on the embargo, promoting a greater level of trade between America and Cuba. However, in-coming Preisdent, Donald Trump, is making statements about tightening the embargo again, which is not going to help the situation. It will make things infinitely worse for America in ways I cannot accurately describe. Easing Cuba into democracy via kindness and trade is the correct solution. They have proven they can weather the economic adversities of an embargo, which rendered it ineffective. Therefore, productive incentives via open trade between America and Cuba can lead to democracy on the island.
