Did Angelina Jolie Manipulate Her Press Coverage November 24. 2008
When the story broke in the press that actress Angelina Jolie was suspected of having an affair with vapid actor Brad Pitt, who at the time, was married to actress Jennifer Aniston, the media coverage got ugly. Jolie and Pitt were bashed in many publications. This week the New York Times states Jolie struck a deal with People magazine for favorable coverage.
It’s not impossible to believe, as some stars outright bribe journalists to keep their irrevelant man butt in the press. However, with Jolie it was the opposite. She wanted to limit the negative exposure, clearly not believing all publicity is good publicly, something I myself have stated on this website many times. Take for instance Tom Cruise – bad publicity has done his career in. Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and others have been harmed by negative press as well. Only an unwise person would believe any press is good press.
Jolie, for the most part, denies the New York Times’ claims, but I think there is some merit to what they have stated. She seems genuinely hurt by the negative coverage, even things Aniston has said publicly and clearly wishes for it to stop. Side bar: People magazine can’t save you or any star
from the bloggers, Angelina. The blogs are usually no holds barred,
unvarnished coverage that takes no prisoners. Pop culture blogs
have a combined readership in the tens of millions per month. That’s
whom you need to be concerned about. As they jokingly say, “Be afraid. Be very
afraid!” Angelina Jolie’s Carefully Orchestrated Image Pictures of Angelina Jolie, above at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, with her companion Brad Pitt and their twin babies were sold for an estimated $14 million this year. More Photos > LOS ANGELES — When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt negotiated with People and other celebrity magazines this summer for photos of their newborn twins and an interview, the stars were seeking more than the estimated $14 million they received from the deal. They also wanted a hefty slice of journalistic input — a promise that the winning magazine’s coverage would be positive, not merely in that instance but into the future. According to the deal offered by Ms. Jolie, the winning magazine was obliged to offer coverage that would not reflect negatively on her or her family, according to two people with knowledge of the bidding who were granted anonymity because the talks were confidential. The deal also asked for an “editorial plan” providing a road map of the layout, these people say... People denies condition to Jolie's positive coverage Washington (ANI): People magazine has denied there were any restrictions or conditions placed during Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie's twins pictures deal. According to reports, a deal Jolie struck with the magazine to publish pictures of her newborn twins not only involved a 14 million dollars payment but also an alleged guarantee of "positive" coverage, reports CBS News... |
