British Tourist Jailed In Dubai And Is Facing 3-Years In Prison For Drinking Alcohol And Accidentally Bumping Into A Man

The Government Of Dubai Needs To Let Him Go

Patricia and Graham Harron are the distraught parents of Jamie Harron, a British tourist to Dubai, who was arrested over an innocuous incident. Harron's parents are now warning the public against visiting Dubai, a nation in the United Arab Emirates. Harron's parents are in a state of disbelief and anger that their son has been arrested over an incident that occurred in a Dubai bar.

Harron was arrested, after he was unsteady on his feet while walking through a crowded bar in Dubai, while holding a drink and accidentally touched a man's hip in trying to steady himself. Harron has been detained for the past three months in a Dubai jail and is outrageously facing 3-years in prison. Previously, the Judiciary Report warned about tourists going to nations such as Dubai, as it could result in imprisonment for things that are not offenses in western nations.

The London Evening Standard reported, "His representatives said legal troubles began when he was arrested for alleged public indecency and drinking alcohol at the Rock Bottom Bar on July 15. He is said to have been moving through the crowded bar holding a drink, with his hand in front of him to avoid spillage, when he 'touched a man on his hip to avoid impact. Mr Harron, from Stirling, had been working in Afghanistan and was on a two-day stopover in Dubai when the incident happened. He is said to have since lost his job and has spent more than £30,000 in expenses and legal fees."

I do not agree with this arrest at all. The Dubai government need to release Harron. He did not attack or assault anyone. Harron's life has been disrupted and he now has a criminal record abroad over drinking alcohol and an accidental touch of someone's hip, after becoming unsteady in a bar. It is outrageous to detain a tourist for that.

The Dubai government is running ads all over the West imploring people to come to their nation, as they want the tourist revenues, but there have been so many arrests of western tourists once they get there. It is very unfair. The two ways of life are not compatible and people from the West need to be careful. It's not worth the risk.

People from the West drink alcohol on vacation, but they can arrest you in Dubai for doing so. People from the West have sex while on vacation, but they can arrest you in Dubai for fornicating. People from the West kiss while on vacation, but they can arrest you for kissing in public, as it is considered indecent under Dubai law. There are Americans, Britons, Australians, Africans and Europeans locked up in prisons for doing things such as drinking alcohol, kissing and or having sex while on vacation in Dubai.

If you are a woman and are raped while on vacation or temporarily working in Dubai, you will be thrown in prison for fornication and could be forced to remain incarcerated for years. It has happened to a number of people. In the West, the man goes to prison if convicted of rape. In Middle Eastern nations such as Dubai, women are considered to be half the worth of a man (literally and financially) and in cases of rape, the woman is automatically blamed and punished under the law with imprisonment (even if it is an underage female victim).

Therefore, as a woman or man from the West, you are taking a huge risk going on vacation or temporarily working in nations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar in the Middle East or North Korea, as you mostly likely will unintentionally break the law and quite easily, due to the strict customs in said regions. It's not worth your freedom or the trauma that could ensue.

Parents of young Brit facing jail for ‘touching man’s hip': Don’t go to Dubai

8 hours ago - The anxious parents of a young British man held in Dubai after allegedly bumping into a man in a bar have told of their ordeal and said: “People have to stop visiting this country.” Jamie Harron was arrested after putting his hand on a man’s hip so he didn’t “bump and spill drinks” and now faces a three-year prison sentence, his lawyers said. The 27-year-old was locked up for five days before being released and having his passport seized by officials in the Gulf state, campaign group Detained in Dubai said.

Now the Scotsman is stranded awaiting the outcome of court hearings as he racks up expensive legal costs. Since his arrest nearly two months ago on July 15, the electrician’s family have been mounting a desperate effort to get him home. Dad Graham said: “Patricia and I have not been able to relax for a moment. We never dreamed we would have to face something like this. I wanted him to tell his story to the press but he really did not think it would be necessary.

“We can't believe that this nightmare has gone on for three months. Jamie is a good boy. He has never been a problem and never in trouble. “We are a very close family and it is killing us to think of him spending even three nights in jail, let alone three years.”..."People have to stop visiting that country. Since Jamie was arrested, I have researched and found that this is more common than any of us think.”

His representatives said legal troubles began when he was arrested for alleged public indecency and drinking alcohol at the Rock Bottom Bar on July 15. He is said to have been moving through the crowded bar holding a drink, with his hand in front of him to avoid spillage, when he "touched a man on his hip to avoid impact"...
