Big Brother Blocks MySpace From The Military Government Blocks MySpace From Troops June 4. 2007 Well, a big boo to the government for blocking the soldiers' access to MySpace. Not only are they in a foreign country they don't understand, one of the few web sites that could keep them abreast of a basic amount of news, music and films being released in the States, providing snippets for recreation, and more importantly, the ability to connect with people in America while they are away, has been blocked by big brother. The government claims it's a distraction. I believe the true motive for this move is to stop the soldiers from reading about the opposition to the war. There are many MySpace web sites devoted to stopping the war and spreading peace, which is not the current administration or Congress' agenda. Americans and Brits, generally don't have an unfavorable view of the troops. They understand they were sent there for the wrong reasons. It's the war and the government they have issues with regarding it. By removing MySpace, you have callously removed a social site that provided them a link to the life they once knew...that some of them may never return to. Such a move reeks of desperation and lack of trust in the troops, that they will be able to govern themselves online. I wholeheartedly disagree with this callous move that will only pacify the worries of those in government, at the expense of tens of thousands of troops. The government is mighty fond of hiding things, as though launching a cover up is the cure-all answer to every problem. But as God says in the Bible the "Things hidden will come to light." |
