A woman in London, Katie Piper, who was an aspiring model and television personality, was well on her way to stardom, when she was horribly disfigured by a man she met on Facebook, who became possessive and jealous.

He brutally raped, beat and terrorized her. After she finally broke free, she returned to her apartment, but did not call the police to file a report, for fear of what he would do to her. He capitalized on that fear to attack her again.

Hours later, he forced one of his friends to throw sulfuric acid in her face, disfiguring her in a gory attack outside an internet cafe. He and his accomplice have now been sentenced to life in prison, which is just for this terrible crime.

Most people want to believe the best regarding others, but that is not always safe. Be careful who you speak to online. Be cautious in volunteering your personal information, such as your address and phone number. You really do not know who is lurking on the other end of that computer connection and whether they seek to do you harm.

If you are being harassed and threatened online (or in person), file a police report immediately, with as many details as you can recall. Do not let unlawful conduct go unchallenged, via not reporting it to the authorities.

Do not get confrontational with an online nemesis, seeking to confront them in public. Avoid them and discontinue all contact. Keep pushing your case with the authorities and politely impress upon them they are legally compelled to do their job in justice matters. It is your life and if need be, legally fight for it within the scope of the law.
