Andre 3000 Sued For Copyright Infringement December 9. 2008
Outkast rapper Andre 3000 is being sued for copyright infringement with damages in excess of $2,000,000 being requested. He is being accused of stealing his Emmy award winning Cartoon Network series “Class of 3000” from a former art student named Timothy McGee, who is being represented by attorney Jerrold Neeff. In 1997 McGee made a mistake I have warned many of my readers about – submitting copyrighted work to entertainment industry companies. As I have stated before, they will take it out the mail, remove your name from it and use it as their own, re-copyrighting already copyrighted material. I find it hard to believe it is a coincidence that a copyrighted show proposal by an illustrator was submitted to a network, declined, then years later said network mysteriously releases a show that infringes the preexisting item they were sent in the mail. That’s a little too close for comfort. It reminds me of the Jessica Seinfeld case. Andre 3000 Sued Over 'Class of 3000' Cartoon A new lawsuit filed in a Boston courtroom claims that the Andre 3000-created Cartoon Network series Class of 3000 was not as original as the rapper, or the network would have viewers believe, the Boston Herald reports. Former art student Timothy McGee is suing the Outkast star, as well as Cartoon Network and its parent company Turner Broadcasting for $2 million in damages, citing copyright infringement, breach of contract and misappropriation of trade secrets in the creation of the award winning show… |
