This is a follow up to the November 8, 2013 Judiciary Report article "16-Year-Old Girl Sentenced To Life In Prison For Killing An Armed Man Who Hired Her For Sex." 30-year-old Cyntoia Brown has been through the ringer in the court system over the past 2-years, after she was placed on trial for killing a man she had sex with when she was a 16-year-old sex slave.

Brown’s pimp, Garion McGlothen (street name Kut-Throat) threatened, beat, abused and raped her on a regular basis. Beginning at age 14, Brown’s pimp forced her to have sex with 36 men for money, of which he kept the lion’s share. Mixed race black teen, Brown, was sent to have sex with 44-year-old white male, Johnny Allen. After they had sex, she shot and killed him. Then, Brown robbed him and fled his home. She was heard bragging about his murder.

Brown was apprehended and placed on trial. She was convicted of Allen’s murder. The Tennessee Supreme Court upheld the decision to give Brown 51-years in prison for his death. Many are complaining this is in defiance of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that minors must not be given life in prison. However, engaging in semantics, the lower Tennessee Supreme Court stated they consider life in prison “60-years” not the 51-years Brown has been given.

There are mass murderers in U.S. history who were given mess time in prison than Brown. It leads me to wonder if there is a racial bias present in this case. Brown killed a white man in the deep south. Now the court has thrown the book at her, via a disproportionate sentence that has set a precedent of the wrong kind.

The Tennessee Courts did not take into consideration that Brown was underage, born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, or the fact she is a victim of human trafficking. That is very strange. U.S. courts are noted for leniency where minors are concerned. The racial factor is the driving factor behind the enormous prison sentence. I can discern no other reason for that elongated prison sentence.
