Britney Spears Sales Plunge December 17. 2008
Last week I wrote about Britney Spears’ falsified sales. Last week she mysteriously debuted with 505,000 units sold for the first week, when by all accounts and projections at the beginning of the sales period, she was on track to sell 300,000 copies. I was told her true numbers were really in the 370,000 range and inflated thanks to a certain famous retailer. During her second week of release, on today’s sales chart, her sales have plunged a hefty 62% to 195,000 copies sold. That’s a huge fall off in sales. Well, that’s because her first week numbers weren’t correct to begin with.
Her third week sales, for next week’s charts, are looking bad as well. In Britain, a major music market, her first week sales were so poor for her they were not released.
Schizophrenic Britney Spears complains in MTV special about her father's court approved rules put in place to keep her from doing something terrible Her second week sales in Britain were terrible, with the album in question “Circus” plummeting from #4 to #14 with the sales data withheld again.
When she went to Japan on a promo trip, only one fan greeted her at the airport. She also had another awkward and embarrassing performance that was labeled “crazy.”
As I stated two weeks ago, artists like Taylor Swift have supplanted her. Swift came back from behind this week and knocked Britney from the number one spot on the charts with an album that’s almost two months old. Her previous CD also sold well. Taylor Swift Reclaims Billboard 200 Throne In a week without a top 10 debut, Taylor Swift's "Fearless" reclaims the top spot on The Billboard 200, inching up 2-1 thanks to a 29% sales increase to 249,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Fearless" debuted at No. 1 five weeks ago with 592,000 and has shifted 1.5 million so far. Last week's chart-topper, Britney Spears' Jive set "Circus," falls to No. 2 with 200,000 (-60%). SWIFT ON TOP December 17, 2008 - Taylor Swift’s Big Machine album Fearless is proving to be the holidays’ big winner, on track to log another week at #1, with a total pegged at between 330-350k… http://www.hitsdailydouble.com SWIFT GRABS THE SPOILS December 16, 2008 - Our final chart tally of the year goes to the Swift—Taylor, that is—as the young Country phenom caps an incredible year by landing back at #1 with her sophomore Big Machine album, Fearless, racking up 254k in sales, up almost 40%. http://www.hitsdailydouble.com Britney Spears squeezes into a tiny bra and hotpants for wacky performance on Japanese TV ….Bizarrely, her cheek was painted with a fake tattooed heart. Her choice of outfit was clearly a bid to spice up her repeatedly recycled Womanizer routine, which she has performed identically in four countries. Even in the Far East, where fans are known to enjoy wacky and extrovert routines, her costume raised eyebrows… She wished her Japanese fans 'have a happy Christmas', despite a majority of the country being Buddhists or Shintoists… She was criticised by viewers of The X Factor for her obvious miming after it was revealed her microphone was merely a prop when host Dermot O'Leary had to share his mic with her. Take That singer Mark Owen, who also performed on The X Factor, said this week he didn't believe Britney should have been allowed to perform, when all the contestants sing live. He said: 'I think she was ill-advised to appear on The X Factor. They don't have the show in the US, do they? I thought it seemed like she wasn't sure where she was.'… Despite winning an MTV Award in September and getting no.1 hits with her single Womanizer, her recent television performances have prompted speculation she is not quite ready for her comeback… When Britney arrived in Tokyo last week she was greeted by a single fan |
