The Taint Of The Harvey Weinstein Sex Scandal Impacted Sales Of 'Paddington 2' At The Box Office

As reported on the Judiciary Report last year, writers, producers and production companies have been frantically attempting to extricate themselves from contracts with the Weinstein Company, due to the rape and sexual assault scandal enveloping one of its founders, Harvey Weinstein. He has been accused of sexually harassing, assaulting and or raping over 100 women.

As previously mentioned in the October 23, 2017 article Harvey Weinstein Could Lose The Weinstein Company As Filmmakers Bail In The Face Of Rape And Sexual Assault Scandal, the makers of the "Paddington" film series were able to leave the Weinstein Company. However, there was some damage by association, as with all Weinstein's projects, in the fallout from the rape scandal.

The 2014 film "Paddington" grossed $76,271,832 in America and in total $268,000,000 worldwide. However, box office reports indicate the 2017 sequel "Paddington 2" released after the Weinstein scandal, has grossed $37,000,000 in America and in total $204,000,000 worldwide. These figures indicate a sales decline. It is the taint associated with Weinstein. He is now box office poison.

Weinstein is currently in a Arizona rehab facility and is planning a comeback in Hollywood. However, he is so despised in and outside the industry, people want him to retire and go to prison for sex crimes against defenseless women he has abused.
