Los Angeles Prosecutors Mulling Filing A Criminal Case Against Harvey Weinstein Regarding 8 Victims

December 30. 2019

Harvey Weinstein

Prosecutors in Los Angeles, California are reviewing eight criminal cases against disgraced Hollywood producer and rapist, Harvey Weinstein. The former Hollywood mogul is currently on trial in New York for raping and sexually assaulting women.

The movie industry is based in Hollywood, which is a town in Los Angeles. Prosecutors have shown high profile criminals special treatment in allowing them to roam free after committing serious sexual and financial crimes against members of the public, including children.

The fact of the matter is for decades victims have filed complaints with state authorities and the FBI on a federal level, against Hollywood figures such as Weinstein. However, the FBI told local authorities to stand down and nothing was done. This facilitated the statute of limitations expiring in California, among other states.

Now prosecutors in are facing the challenge of trying to get cases filed they knew of long ago and did nothing about, but are now embarrassed and disgraced, because the Me Too movement caused such public outrage domestically and worldwide.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reviewing eight cases accusing disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, an official said Thursday. The Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments each brought four investigations to prosecutors, according to Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The office will decide whether to move forward with prosecution. No charges have been filed, Santiago said. He did not know details about the allegations or when the cases were presented to prosecutors. Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein’s publicist, said he had “nothing to add right now” in an email to The Associated Press.

District Attorney Jackie Lacey created a task force more than two years ago to handle the surge in sexual misconduct allegations against entertainment figures after the accusations against Weinstein launched the #MeToo movement. He has denied allegations of nonconsensual sex.

No charges have been filed against 22 men — including Weinstein, actor Kevin Spacey, director James Toback and former CBS CEO Leslie Moonves — who were the focus of the task force’s investigations. All of them have denied wrongdoing. Charges have already been rejected for most, mainly because the statute of limitations had expired or there was insufficient evidence...
