Grand Jury Convening In Jussie Smollett Hate Crime Hoax Case

Reports indicate “Empire” television show actor Jussie Smollett is no longer considered a victim of crime in the complaint he filed with Chicago police, stating a racist, homophobic attack was perpetrated against him by two white MAGA hat wearing supporters of President Trump. Further reports indicate Smollett paid two brothers, Olabinjo Osundairo and Abimbola Osundairo, who worked on “Empire” and spent time with him in the gym on different occasions, $3,500 to launch a fake attack against him at 2:00AM on January 29, 2019.

Police became suspicious of the holes in Smollett’s story and began running other lines of inquiry. It led the police to the Osundairo brothers, who were arrested, quested and released. They were released, as both men have flipped and are cooperating with police. Upon hearing this news, Smollet immediately hired a top defense attorney, who also represents Michael Cohen. That’s not something a victim of crime would do.

Smollett has also refused to speak to the police again, as they have questions about the serious inconsistencies in his story and he is now the prime suspect. It’s one thing to stage an attack for publicity. It’s inorganic and wrong. However, once you drag the police into it, wasting their time that is needed elsewhere, you’ve gone way too far.

Smollett has wasted a significant amount of police resources, which are already stretched in Chicago, as they have a lot to deal with due to gang activity. They did not need someone filing a false police complaint and usurping their valuable time. When they were under the impression that Smollett was actually attacked, due to the embarrassment of such an assault of a racist and homophobic nature happening in their city, police redirected resources to help restore the city’s name. Only to find out it didn’t happen at all.

The Reverend Al Sharpton, who had supported Smollett, has stated he should be punished to the full extent of the law if it is revealed he lied. Senator Nancy Pelosi has retracted her comment on Twitter that was made in support of Smollett. Many people are backing away from him over the preposterous hoax he has perpetrated.

People want to believe someone when they tell them they are a victim of crime. That’s the compassionate thing to do. While I usually believe victims, I did not believe Smollett, because as stated on the site last week, his claim that the alleged assailants called him that “Empire f**got n**ger” was a red flag, as MAGA red hat wearing supporters don’t watch “Empire.”

Now news has surfaced that Smollett paid his “Empire” co-workers to by rope from a hardware store and make a noose, which was used in the fake attack, to evoke painful images of slavery. Based on reports, police have tracked down the purchase and the Osundairo brothers gave them the receipt.

Scarily enough, Smollett had originally stated in an interview that he is ready to pick out his assailants in a police line up, which means he was ready to send two innocent men to prison. He was ready to choose two Trump supporters. As a consequence of Smollett's conduct, police have shifted the focus of the investigation to the actor. Reports indicate a grand jury has convened with the goal of indicting Smollett for staging the fake hate crime and wasting police resources.

Civil rights activist Najee Ali slammed Smollett’s behavior, stating he could have caused a race war with his false allegations. Ali stated, “It’s a slap in the face. We have many members of the black community and the LGBTQ community who have been the victims of racism and hate crimes, so for Smollett to say that he was a victim…and we believe is a lie…certainly is an injustice to those true victims. Smollett must be brought to justice for lying. Smollett could have created a race war…if Jussie Smollett really wants to do what‘s right, he‘ll stop this campaign of lies.”

Smollet even went so far as sending himself a deranged, threatening letter, containing a death threat, the slur “f*g” and the lie it came from a “MAGA” supporter. The letter looks so strange and juvenile. Smollett is insane to have done this (much like others on the "Empire" set, such as Lee Daniels). The threatening letter Smollett sent himself was comprised of letters cut out of magazines, in conduct a serial killer or violent stalker would do.

Smollett’s career was drying up. He’s a man who was on the casting couch to get work in Hollywood. He has also been kept by sugar daddies. He is approaching 40, which is a difficult time for actors in Hollywood, as it's an industry known for ageism. Unless you’re someone like Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry and Denzel Washington, studios are reluctant to give actors over age 40 work.

Smollett was never a big star to begin with and he’s not even the top actor on “Empire.” There has been little interest in his new album, his concert ticket sales were very slow and he was about to be written off “Empire.” Smollett did the unthinkable to keep a near flatlined career going. It’s one thing to lose one’s career. However, it’s quite another to lose one’s freedom.
